Tributes from Dr. Pearson, HHP Department Chair

Dear Family Members, University Officials, and Friends:
It is with deep regret that I am unable to be with you this evening to celebrate the life of Princess Eke, an exemplary young lady, fine scholar, and dedicated sorority member. Her infectious smile and pleasing demeanor endeared her with both students and faculty. I was pleased to have taught Princess as an undergraduate and serve as her graduate faculty advisor during her masters degree program.
Although Princess was ambivalent about her ability to achieve a graduate degree, once her mind was made up she undertook the challenge with unbridled enthusiasm and dedication. As the Associate Chair of the Department of Health and Human Performance, I was pleased to have her as a teaching fellow in our physical activity program. Her involvement in the HHP instructional program was reassuring because it continued the legacy of excellent pedagogy in the department.
It is my hope that those who are assembled here this evening realize the magnitude of the life unfulfilled, but more importantly the opportunity of benevolence made in the name of Princess Eke by her loving family. Through their generosity other young scholars attending the University of Houston’s Department of Health and Human Performance will be touched by her spirit and courage.
In closing, I will take the liberty to speak on behalf of the University of Houston, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the Department of Health and Human Performance in thanking everyone for attending this dedication, and the Eke family that entrusted us with the education of their daughter. We thank you for the privilege.
